Longtime Cedaredge resident Pernie B. Matthies died Dec. 10, 2017, at her home. She was 88.
Services will be held at a later date.
Pernie B. Becker was born June 13, 1929, to Irvin and Adella (Buller) Becker near Ulysses, Kan. She spent her childhood and attended school in Halstead, Kan.
On April 23, 1950, she married Lester Matthies in Halstead, Kan.
Mrs. Matthies was a longtime member of the Grand Mesa Southern Baptist Church in Cedaredge. She also belonged to the Rose Garden Club and enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and traveling.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lester Matthies; two sons, Rodney (Sunshine) Matthies and Randy Matthies; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Matthies was preceded in death by her brother, Myron Becker.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
