With four seats up for election on the Crawford town council, candidates have begun circulating petitions to be placed on the ballot. According to town clerk Cally Gallegos, as of Tuesday, Jan. 9, eight petitions have been picked up.

Those holding three of the four seats up for election have picked up petitions. Incumbents Mike Tiedemann and Chris Johnson are seeking reelection. Jeff Peed, who was appointed to fill a vacancy last fall, is seeking election to the council. Chriss Watters has decided not to seek reelection.

Three other citizens have taken out five candidate petitions.

To qualify as a candidate, the petitioner needs to gather a minimum of 10 signatures from residents registered to vote in the Town of Crawford, and return the completed petition to Town Hall by Tuesday, Jan. 22. The petitioner must also be a citizen of the United States, be registered to vote, be at least 18 years old, and have resided in Crawford at least 12 months prior to the election.

Submitted petitions are then reviewed to make sure the petitioner and signatures meet the legal requirements. Successful candidates are then placed on the ballot, which will be mailed in mid-March and must be returned by Tuesday, April 3.
