PHS Homecoming is a star-struck week of activity

Hang on to your top hats and put on your sunglasses. It's Homecoming week at Paonia Junior-Senior High School. This year's star-struck theme is "The Movies."

Each day of the week students dress in a different theme. Today's dress-up theme is "Decades." The senior class will put its glad rags on and step out into the Roaring 20s, while the junior class will Disco through the 1970s. Oh Snap! The sophomores will dress as if it's totally, OMG!, the 1990s, while the freshmen flat out go ape for the fabulous 1950s. Thursday is another chapter in Homecoming Week as students don togas and teekees for "Frat and Sorority" day.

The traditional senior class "Lighting of the P" takes place at dusk Thursday night, followed by the annual bonfire. Before the fires are lit and the sparks fly, the boys will don their best tutus and put on pink for the Peach Fuzz volleyball tournament. Bring your appetite for the "senior barbecue" fundraiser.

The whole town can participate in Friday's Dress-up Day, as the theme is Eagles Red and Black. Grand Avenue will be lined with red and black flags for the annual Homecoming parade beginning at 1 p.m. The parade route begins on First Street and runs the entire length of Grand Avenue.

Come support your home team when the Eagles homecoming C-team volley games against Plateau Valley begin at 3 p.m., followed by the JV game at 4 p.m. The varsity team will take the court at 5 p.m.

From there, head to Dan Lawrence Field at Paonia Town Park for the annual Homecoming football game against Basalt. Kick-off is at 7 p.m. Homecoming royalty coronation happens at halftime.

On Saturday the Eagles cross country team runs at the Delta-Sweitzer Lake Cross Country Invitational.

Fall arrives with the September Equinox at precisely 7:54 p.m., followed by the annual Homecoming dance at 9 p.m.
