This summer a host of volunteer cancer warriors worked with a downtown Cedaredge tavern to inspire their community to help six-year-old Quinten Christian in his battle with cancer. Guided by DJ and Barb Hladik, owners of The Pondy, the dedicated team raised over $14,500.
"Everybody was very generous this year as they always are," said Barb. This marks the third year in a row that she and her husband have spearheaded cancer fundraisers. "We couldn't have done it without the help of our volunteers, the unconditional support of our Pondy people, and charitable contributions from the community," she said.
Added to funds raised in 2016 and 2017, this year's contributions bring the total raised by the group to over $34,000. Each year a new individual with local connections is selected to be the beneficiary of fundraising efforts. Contributions are used to help the patient with cancer treatments and related expenses.
Planning for next year will begin in February 2019 with an eye toward scheduling fundraising events in June, July and August. As with years past, the Hladiks will be counting on a core group of good people to help them make next year a success but additional volunteers are always needed. Anyone interested in helping with next year's events is invited to call The Pondy at 970-856-3464 or stop by the bar at 220 West Main Street during business hours. The Pondy is open daily from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m.
