This year's Mountain Harvest Festival 5k is guaranteed to be FUN. Paonia Elementary School and the festival are coordinating efforts for the PES Harvest 5k FUNraising FUNrun/walk on Sunday, Sept. 30.
The race is presented by the Paonia Parents Organization, created for involved parents who come together for the common good of all students, faculty and the community. Proceeds will go toward improvements to the outdoor garden classroom, student achievement awards, and after-school classes.
The course begins and ends at Paonia Town Park at the heart of the MHF activities. For the more serious competitors, the race will be professionally timed. Strollers and walkers are welcome. The course loops around town and includes a roughly 500-foot section of well-maintained, stroller-friendly gravel road. The course is well-marked with volunteers at each turn and a water station at Mile 2.
Entry fee is $25 per adult runner, $15 per youth 11 years or younger, and includes a commemorative running headband, participant medal, running bib, and snacks and beverages at the finish line. Prizes will be awarded for overall fastest male and female, fastest in each age group, and the fastest teacher.
The race will be held rain or shine, and participants are urged to dress accordingly. To pre-register, visit mountainharvestfestival.org/festival-schedule/ and click on the "Paonia Elementary School 5k run" under Sunday's events.
