Two Delta residents who were out on bond for other crimes were arrested Tuesday, Aug. 21, after reportedly firing a gun six times from a red Toyota Tacoma pickup, then speeding away.
Officers of the Delta Police Department responded to the area of East 5th Street and A Street at about 2:18 p.m. the afternoon of Aug. 21. Based on the description of the vehicle, officers quickly identified the suspects and located the pickup at a residence at 5th Street and Riley Lane. Parker Chase Avondet, 18, and Majacemeno "Xac" Gallegos, 20, were arrested without incident.
A firearm and alleged Schedule I controlled substances were taken into police custody and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
DPD Chief Luke Fedler said officers canvassed the area and have been unable to determine whether the men were firing into the air or at a specific target. No injuries and no damage have been reported. Officers recovered 9mm brass from the area where the shots were reported.
Avondet was arrested and jailed for alleged possession of Schedule I controlled substance (heroin), prohibited use of a weapon, violation of bail bond conditions and violation of a protection order with a $10,000 bond.
