There will be mayoral races in both Cedaredge and Orchard City in the April 5 municipal elections.
At the Jan. 25 deadline, in Cedaredge there are two candidates. Voters will select between Ray Hanson, completing his second term as trustee, and Gene Welch, a former two-term trustee.
There are three open trustee positions in Cedaredge, with two candidates filing petitions. First-term trustee Dayton Myers is seeking re-election. Planning commission member Bob Michael is seeking a first term on the board.
In Orchard City, former town trustee Jan Gage and current town trustee Ken Volgamore are running for mayor.
Four candidates filed petitions seeking four open trustee seats. They are Gyneepher Thomassen, a business owner; Tom Huerkamp, a former mayor; Craig Fuller, a current trustee; and Richard Kirkpatrick, who has served on the boards of Grand Mesa Resort Company and The Abraham Connection.
The candidates completed their paperwork and their petition signatures had been verified by Monday's deadline.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
