Robert Plute

Robert "Bob" L. Plute died at his home in Paonia May 5, 2019. He was 86.

Graveside services will be held Friday, May 17, at 1 p.m., at Valley Lawn Cemetery in Montrose.

He was born Sept. 11, 1932, in Somerset to Antone and Ann Plute. He attended school in Paonia.

He married Mary Frank Sept. 5, 1953, in Grand Junction.

Mr. Plute entered the United States Air Force in 1952. He served in Korea, Turkey, Libya, Vietnam and Thailand as a radar operator. He achieved the rank of tech sergeant and served for more than 20 years.

On retirement he remained in St. George, Utah, and partnered in a HVAC business. After several years, he purchased his own HVAC company in Kanab, Utah. After several years, he moved the business to Montrose so he could take care of his parents. He was also a rural mail carier. On semi-retirement from the business, he moved to Somerset and then to Paonia until his death.

Mr. Plute enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, spending time at the American Legion, bowling tournaments around the country and watching the Rockies in Denver.

He is survived by his daughter, Denise and husband Robert of Montrose; son Mark and wife Loral, also of Montrose; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Plute; and his sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 97 in Paonia.
