Friday, Jan. 11, marked Roger Christian's final day as an employee of the City of Delta.

He joined the Delta Police Department on April 29, 1987, and served as patrol officer, sergeant, commander, interim and acting chief of police.

Just over 10 years ago, he transferred to the community development office and became the city's code enforcement officer. His responsibilities were extended to animal control four years ago.

That adds up to 21 years with the police department and 10 1/2 with the community development department -- a career spanning nearly 32 years.

At the Jan. 8 meeting of the Delta City Council, Christian was recognized for his dedication to the city by both Mayor Ron Austin and DPD Chief Luke Fedler.

Fedler said Christian was his commander for a long time, his chief for a while, a mentor throughout his 19-year career with the police department, and a good friend.

"What a fantastic contribution you've made to the City of Delta in your employment," said council member Gerald Roberts. "Thank you very much for all those years."

Mark Bowen, the new code enforcement officer for the City of Delta, can be reached at 874-7903, ext. 217 or by email at mark@cityofdelta.net.
