A second seismic project in Paonia's watershed has been proposed by Gunnison Energy, LLC.
If approved, the Trail Gulch Seismic Project would allow GELLC to "conduct 2D and 3D seismic surveys to map subsurface geology in the Trail Gulch Oil and Gas unit" to determine oil and gas development potential on existing leases, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Those leases are located on more than 14,000 acres of public and private land north of Paonia in Gunnison and Delta counties.
During the scoping period, which ends Friday, Dec. 7, the Forest Service is accepting public comments on the proposed project.
An application to conduct 3D seismic testing under the Iron Point 3D seismic testing project was withdrawn by GELLC following the public scoping period ending Oct. 26. Following withdrawal, the Forest Service published notice of the Trail Gulch project.
