Longtime North Fork resident, Sidney L. (Sid) Christian, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at the Paonia Care Center. He was 91 years old.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Hotchkiss Elks Lodge. Private family graveside services were held at the Riverside Cemetery, Hotchkiss, Colo. Cremation has taken place.
Sidney L. Christian was born on June 29, 1926, to Ralph T. and Mildred (Reigles) Christian in Hotchkiss, Colo., and grew up in Crawford. Sid did not graduate with his high school class but later earned his GED. He served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Missouri and witnessed the surrender of Japan aboard the ship.
On June 6, 1949, Sid married the love of his life, Peggy J. Jardon, in Delta, Colo. This June of this year Sid and Peggy would have celebrated 69 years of marriage.
Sid worked for the State of Colorado Dept. of Transportation in Grand Junction and Hotchkiss as a senior maintenance man until his retirement. He enjoyed his family, playing golf, hunting, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Homer, a sister Marie, a daughter-in-law Kelly Ann, and a grandson Ryan.
Among his survivors are his wife Peggy Christian; three sons, Roger and David of Hotchkiss, Larry (Kelly) Christian of Rangely; eight grandchildren, Megan Dillon (Martin) of Conifer, Lindee (Shon) Cantrell of Hotchkiss, Joseph Christian (Becky) of Hotchkiss, Clay Christian (Kayla) of Carson, Wash., Jordan Christian of Carson, Wash., Cody Christian of Grand Junction, Cory Christian (Mykell) of Grand Junction, and Sean Christian (Alysce) of Fort Collins; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, Sid and Mitch Dillon of Conifer, Marissa and Jared Cantrell of Hotchkiss, Joseph Jr. of Hotchkiss, David, Marlea and Tyler of Carson, Wash., Aydan, Taylor Gavyn and Cooper of Grand Junction, and Connor of Fort Collins.

During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
