Photo submitted Riders start off under a colorful arch of balloons at last year's AppleBlossom Ride. Hosted in the spring by Boy Scouts of Troop 482, the event features three routes around Cedaredge
The fourth annual AppleBlossom Ride is slated for Saturday, May 12, beginning at 8 a.m. in Cedaredge Town Park.
There are three skill routes to appeal to riders of all skill levels. Aid stations will be found along all the routes, and there will be ride support.
Those looking for a challenge will enjoy the Hard Cider 50-mile course. It is a mix of steep climbs, twists and turns and pleasant straight and flat roads of Cedar and Redlands mesa. The course is designed for seasoned road cyclists. Portions of this ride can be found on the Strava app.
The Apple Core route has some of the climbing elements of Hard Cider, yet is half as long at 25 miles. It begins with a climb out of Cedaredge to Aspen Trails and then onto Cedar Mesa before settling into a nice flat into Harts Basin, and looping back to town along Happy Hollow Road.
For younger riders, families and those wanting an easier tour of around the Surface Creek valley, there is the AppleSauce route. This 12-mile route follows lightly traveled roads. The first half is a mix of subtle climbs and relaxing flats. The ride culminates with ice cream.
It was said by more than one rider last year that this is the best tour in Colorado, with the amazing hills and lovely views. The ride is held as a fundraiser for the Boy Scout Troop 482 out of Cedaredge.
