Mervin "Sonny" Dale Gettman died at his home in Cedaredge Wednesday, March 9, 2016. He was 84.
A memorial service was held Monday, March 14, at Cedaredge Community United Methodist Church.
Mr. Gettman was born in Fort Morgan Feb. 7, 1932, to Rhinney and Kathrine (Loose) Gettman. He grew up and attended school in Fort Morgan.
He served in the U.S. Army before working in public transportation. He was a supervisor when he retired.
He enjoyed using his computer, reading, golfing, bowling and watching sports.
Mr. Gettman is survived by his son, Mervin "Tony" (Sue) Gettman of Riverton, Wyo.; his brothers, Richard "Dick" (Barbara) Gettman of Cedaredge and Larry (Sharon) Gettman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his sister, Bev (Jack) Gardner of Cedaredge; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Gregory "Rocky" Gettman, Robert Gettman and Leonard Gettman; and his wife, Laura Gettman.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
