Area baseball players receive honors; Pene WSL Player of the Year

Seven Hotchkiss Bulldog players received recognition for their performances this season on the baseball diamond.

Senior pitcher/outfielder Presley Pene was named to the all-state First Team by the Colorado High School Activities Association, infielder/pitcher Jamison Yanish was named all-state second team, and infielder/pitcher Marvin Guereque received all-state honorable mention.

Pene also made the all-conference first-team and was named 2A Western Slope League Player of the Year. At the plate Pene averaged .462 for the season on 65 at bats. His 30 hits included 29 RBIs, four doubles, four 30 hits included 29 RBIs, four doubles, four triples, and five home runs, two of them grand slams. On the mound Pene had five wins and one loss in nine appearances. Of the 151 batters faced Pene struck out 72, walked 31 and allowed 13 hits and 10 earned runs.

Yanish, Guereque, senior pitcher/outfielder Jesus Macias and junior infielder Brian Gonzalez also received all-conference first-team honors; freshman Parker Pene (catcher/pitcher/infielder) received all-conference honorable mention.

In Class 3A, Delta junior Gauge Lockhart (3B/P), was named by the CHSAA to the all-state second team.

Receiving honorable mention for Delta's Panthers are a pair of seniors, Rowyn Carmichael (1B/P), and Trevor Myers (C/INF/P).

Cedaredge junior Sean Dale (UTIL/SS/P) received all-state honorable mention from the CHSAA.

For the Paonia Eagles, junior Grey Neal (I/P) and seniors David Lozano (I) and Soul Connolly (P, INF) received Class 2A all-state honorable mention and were named to the WSL all-conference first team.

Juniors Jai Petmezas (INF) and Zeb Etter (INF) received all-conference honorable mention.
