The North Fork High School baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 10-6 victory over Rangely on May 9, riding an early surge to the win.Â
The Miners tallied eight runs across the first three innings, twice posting multi-run rallies, while limiting the Panthers’ impact until the top of the seventh. By the bottom of the third frame, North Fork held an 8-1 advantage.
Lane Allen finished 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, while Cody Pagone drove in two runs. Ian Aguilera notched two hits and Zaid Vasquez, although finishing hitless, drew three walks, scoring all the three times and stealing a base in the process.
Allen did the heavy lifting on the mound as well, lasting 6 2/3 innings with three strikeouts, three walks and only two earned runs. Freshman Kaleb Crawford came on in relief and threw one pitch to cement the victory.Â
Later that week, one rough inning ultimately cost the Miners during an 9-1 loss to Roaring Fork. The Rams scored eight of their runs in a lopsided third frame. North Fork didn’t post a run until the bottom of the seventh inning, when Allen crossed the plate.
A make-up date for Gunnison was added to the schedule last week, with the Miners on the road for their season finale on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Cedaredge
The Bruins went 1-3 last week, opening with a 6-5 win over Gunnison, before falling to Aspen and being swept by Coal Ridge. The victory was Cedaredge’s second win in 11 contests. After that, they fell 17-7 to Skiers in the middle of the week, then were shut out in both games by the undefeated Titans, losing 18-0 and 4-0.
The Bruins closed out their season on a high note, however, defeating Grand Valley 20-2 Monday evening.Â
