It was an upset in every sense of the word. The Hotchkiss Bulldogs lost to 15th-seeded Fowler, 12-2, in their opening game of the 2A regional baseball tournament Saturday at Runyon Complex in Pueblo. At 18-2, the Bulldogs were in second place in Class 2A state RPI rankings.

"We got outplayed," said head coach Blake Carlquist. "The offense didn't swing the bats very well, and the defense made some very costly mistakes."

The Dogs, who outscored their competition, 248-80, end the season with a 2A District 3/5 championship. "It was a good season, but not quite the ending we'd imagined," said Carlquist.

They lose five seniors Jesus Macias (OF, P), Presley Pene (OF, P), Jamison Yanish (INF, P, Marvin Guereque (INF, P), Elysah Shaw (C, INF, P) and Landon Mayberry (OF).

As they have the past two seasons, players have a summer schedule lined up, beginning May 30 at Montrose.
