Cedaredge and Delta high schools played on golf courses in Montrose last week. Delta played in the Montrose Invitational at Cobble Creek on Aug. 13 and again, with Cedaredge, on Friday at the Black Canyon Golf Club.
Durango and Montrose tied for team honors on Thursday with 229. Delta finished 12th with a team score of 303.
Durango’s Anthony Flint was the individual medalist on Thursday with his 70 and Montrose’s Jordan Jennings finished second at 71. Jake Legg, Noah Richmond and Rocco Manuel tied for ninth with 90s.
Montrose edged Durango on Friday by seven strokes to win the team title, 230-237. Cedaredge and Palisade tied for eighth with 264s and Delta was 13th with a 299.
Delta’s individual leader on Thursday was Brendan Baier with a 96. Other scorers for Delta were Jack Loveland (97), Cameron Lopez (110), Evan Kappel (117) and Zach Kuta (121).
On Friday, Fruita Monument’s Josh Stouder shot a 72 to win the individual title, Jennings was second with a 73, and Richmond tied for eighth with an 80.
Cedaredge’s Jacen Brown shot an 86 to finish in a tie for 20th to lead Delta County players at Black Canyon. Brysen Harris finished 23rd (88) and Trey Geyer shot a 90 for the Bruins to place 24th.
Delta’s Landon Clay finished the day in a three-way tie for 25th with a 91 while brother Logan finished 33rd with a 97. Loveland and Baier finished in a three-way for 34th with scores of 98.
Cedaredge and Delta were both scheduled to play the River Valley Ranch course in Basalt on Tuesday, Aug. 18. The Bruins are in Eagle Valley (Eagle Ranch Golf Club) on Aug. 24 and play in Cortez (Conquistador) on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Delta’s golf schedule has the Panthers at the Bookcliff Country Club on Monday, Aug. 31 and at Tiara Rado (Grand Junction) on Tuesday, Sep. 1.
