A late meeting on Sunday, Oct. 4, allowed state softball committee members to piece together the 2020 Class 3A State Softball Tournament with the release of the pairings for the 16-team field.
Two Delta County softball teams earned berths in the 2020 CHSAA State Softball Tournament, which began on Monday, Oct. 6, and will conclude this weekend (Saturday, Oct. 10).
Delta High School, the winner of the 3A Western Slope League, qualified for tournament play with a 10th seed after completing the season with a 12-4 overall record (10-2 in league). The Panthers will travel to Limon, the number 7 seed, and are scheduled to play on Wednesday (Oct. 7), with a time yet to be decided.
Cedaredge High School, the third place team from the 3A WSL, finished the 2020 season with an overall record of 10-6 to earn the 15th seed and will play in Greeley against number 2 University (13-3) on Tuesday (Oct. 6) at a time to be decided by school officials..
The rest of the field includes No. 1 Eaton (14-2) hosting No. 16 Wiley (10-6), No. 8 Fort Lupton (15-1) hosting No. 9 La Junta (11-5), No. 4 Rocky Ford (15-1) hosting No. 13 Brush (9-7), No. 5 Lyons (13-3) hosting No. 12 Weld Central (11-5), No. 3 Lutheran (14-1) hosting No. 14 Sterling (8-8) and No. 6 Burlington (11-3) will host No. 11 Strasburg (8-7). All first round games are scheduled to be played on either Oct. 6 (Tuesday) or Oct. 7 (Wednesday) at the higher seeded team’s site. Second round play is to be played at the higher seeded site on Thursday, Oct. 8. All other games (semifinals and finals) are to be played on fields at the Aurora Sports Park Complex in Denver on Oct. 10.
