Delta youth baseball teams were busy earning district titles and playoff berths in the coming Colorado state baseball tournaments over the past week. The 50/70 Intermediate Delta All Stars roared through the Colorado Intermediate District 1 tournament in Grand Junction to earn their berth in this week’s state competition set to begin in Arapahoe at the Arapahoe Little League Complex.
Delta’s baseball fortunes continued to flourish as its 11-12 All Star team was also crowned District 1 champions after defeating four opponents in a week’s long schedule where the local squad scored 43 runs while limiting opponents to just five runs.
Delta began the week on Monday (July 5) with an 11-0 win over Colorado River U12, then took a quick breath before belting Grand Mesa’s All Stars 15-0 on Tuesday. The local diamond crew took Wednesday off and returned to Grand Junction on Thursday and scored a 12-3 win over Monument Majors. In the Major League Colorado District 1 title game on Saturday, Delta’s All Stars faced their stiffest test of the week with a 5-2 win over Three Rivers U12.
In the title game, Kayleb Rogers allowed just two hits and two runs in his four and two-thirds innings while striking out nine batters. Kipton Anderson came on to work one and a third innings to clean up in a relief appearance.
Mack Lockhart, Anderson and Isaac Aguilera had one hit apiece to lead Delta’s All Stars in the win while the fleet-footed Delta squad stole 14 bases, with Joaquin Chavira’s five steals leading the way.
Delta’s Harley Gibson had a home run in the District 1 tournament.
