There were eight schools at the Aug. 21 Grand Mesa County Line Trails cross country meet with a total of 79 runners competing in the girls and boys races.

Hotchkiss High School won the girls division with 25 points with Paonia finishing second with 33 points and Delta third with 67. Caprock Academy won the boys division with 44 points and Paonia High School scored 91 points to finish sixth and Hotchkiss had 129 points for sixth place. The top five runners for each team earned points toward team scores. Delta High School had just two boys in the boys division and did not earn a team score.

In the girls division, Coal Ridge’s Mikayla Cheney won the individual title with her finishing time of 25:26.05. Cedaredge’s Megan Jenkins (running for Hotchkiss High School) helped the Bulldogs win the team title with a time of 28:53.85 and finished sixth. Other top five finishers for Hotchkiss included Carlie Egging (28:57.54, 7th), Paige McGovern, (29:21.63) in eighth place, Cece Houseweart (11th, 30:19.60) and Aubrianna Randlett (12th, 3:40.60). Adair Ela (32:31.09) and Leah Vader (33:38.05) finished 19th and 28th respectively.

Second place Paonia High School’s top finisher was Ceylon Carter who finished third with a time of 28:23.21. The remaining top five scorers for the Eagles include Lea Ellenberger (28:29.58, 4th), Cristina Rankin (31:41.33, 14th), Emily Reedy (32.29.73, 18th) and Abby LaBounty (32:38.14, 20th). Abby Reedy finished 35th with a 36:55.40.

Delta’s Panthers finished third with Sophie McCrackin’s 32:13.16 and placed 17th. Jillian Carlson placed 21st (32:46.25), Alexandra Hirsch was 22nd (32:47.70), Olivia Madden was 24th (32:55.70) and Ellie Ames finished 25th with a time of 33:00.55.

Delta had six other runners in the race, including, Maria Lamas (35:05.88, 31st), Emma Corbasson (35:07.67, 32nd), Tayler Huntley (35:21.75, 33rd), Tori Hirsch (37:09.84, 36th) Kaitlyn Branson (37:37.34, 37th) and Sharon Vigil (34:57.01, 38th).
