In a battle of Delta County tennis teams, Delta and Cedaredge faced off in Delta on May 25 with the Panthers winning this year’s match, 6-1. Delta played Vail Mountain, in Vail, on Thursday with the Gore Rangers winning all seven matches. Cedaredge, after its match against Delta, was in Fruita for a rematch with the Wildcat’s junior varsity team, which was won by Fruita, 5-2.

Delta and Cedaredge played last week at Bill Heddles Rec Center courts with the Panthers prevailing, 6-1.

Delta won all three singles matches with Melana McCormick easing past Cedaredge’s Faith Vader 6-3 and 6-4 in one singles play. Alyssa Bayles won the 2S match, 6-2 and 6-0, over the Bruins’ Dayanara Gonzalez and Mackenzie Sharpe defeated Cedaredge’s Izzi Houseweart, 6-1, 3-6, 10-8.

Mercedes Taylor and Mia Yost defeated Cedaredge’s Leila Morton and Leona Myers 6-2 and 6-0 in one doubles play; Cassidy and Cady Butler scored identical 6-2 wins over the Bruins’ Kerya Sheppard and Olivia Hohenstein in 2D action; Cedaredge’s Kammie Henderson and Kayla Davis defeated Shayla Curtis and Lauren Angelo 6-3 and 6-4 and Oaklee Hughes and Kiersten Taylor won in two sets (7-5 and 6-2) over the Bruins’ Hannah Overstreet and Trista Saenz.

Vail Mountain was relentless in its 7-0 win over Delta’s Panthers on Thursday. In singles action, McCormick lost at 1S, 6-1 and 6-1; Bayles lost in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0; and Sharpe lost in two sets by identical scores of 6-1.
