Delta High School’s cross country teams ended their 2020 season in Durango at the 3A Region 1 qualifying meet hosted by Bayfield. The Panthers’ girls finished eighth with 174 points with Aspen claiming the team title with 51 points. Delta’s boys were 12th in the team race, and Alamosa was crowned team champions with 47 points.

The top girls runner in Friday’s (Oct. 9) race was Basalt’s Katelyn Maley who finished the race in 18:58. The Panthers had six runners in the race with Kylie Huff placing 23rd to be the first Delta runner to finish the race. The remaining runners for the Panthers completed their races to end the 2020 season. Delta’s next five runners, and times, were Kylee Terry (27th — 21:59), Jessica Dexter (32nd — 22:20), Shayla Curtis (37th — 22:36), Kassidy Wear (58th — 24:28) and Jillian Carlson (59th — 24:52).

In the boys 3A race, Gunnison’s Alex Baca was the medalist in the individual portion of the race with his time of 15:58. Delta had six runners entered in the event with Doyle Young crossing the finish line ahead of his teammates. Doyle’s time was 19:49 and landed him in 45th place. The next five Delta runners to finish were Andrew Purvis (64th — 23:00), Alex Toole (66th — 23:23), Moses Huggins (69th — 23:53), Logan Schuster (70th — 24:03) and Andrew Priestly (72nd — 24:40).

There were no individual qualifiers for the Panthers in 2020.
