Delta High School's girls track team had multiple top-five finishes to earn last weekend's team title at its own Delta Invitational with 99 points. There were 15 teams in the field, including Cedaredge (third - 73 points) and Hotchkiss and Paonia who tied for fourth place with 70 points each. Olathe was ninth with 41 points.
Senior Beki Atchley was Delta's lone titlist with a first place finish in the 800m run. Atchley's time was 2:45.16 with teammate Jessica Dexter finishing fifth in a time of 2:49.93.
The Panthers had three individual second place finishes including senior Kaley St. Peter in long jump (16-03), sophomore Keely Porter in shot putt (34-05) and senior Reagan Clay in discus (100-05).
Delta had two other top eight finishes in the long jump with Kaitlyn Branson finishing seventh (14-03) and Sara Geddes eighth (14-02). Clay was fourth in the shot putt competition (31-05.5) and Porter was fifth in discus (95-00).
The Panthers had two relay teams finish second last weekend. Tayler Huntley, Hannah Sterns, Dexter and Atchley joined efforts in the 4 x 400m relay to finish in a time of 4:33.31 and the 4 x 800m relay team (Emma Corbasson, Alexa Huff, Dexter and Atchley) posted a second-place time of 11:01.94.
Other fifth-place finishes went to St. Peter (100m dash - 13.87), Remi Baldwin (100m hurdles - 17.94) and Geddes (high jump - 4-06).
Sixth place finishes were earned by Haylee Chamblin (200m dash - 29.14), Baldwin (300m hurdles - 53.00), Bailie Hulet (high jump - 4-06) and Geddes (triple jump - 28-09).
Delta's sprint medley relay team (Damin Harrison, Cristine Hernandez, Autumn Eddy and Huntley) finished sixth with its time of 2:09.26.
Panthers finishing seventh on Saturday were Sterns (high jump - 4-06) and Hanna Hollenbeck (triple jump - 27-04).
The 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m relay teams earned points for their efforts. Branson, Ylissa Gilliam, Kaelynn Porter and Shianne Valdez had a time of 59.90 in the 4 x 100 and Kaelynn Porter, Hulet, Valdez and Eddy finished eighth in the 4 x 200 relay with their time of 2:08.42.
Delta High School's boys scored 34 points to finish ninth in last weekend 14-team field Delta Invitational track meet.
Senior John Ames' third-place finish in the 800m run was Delta's best finish of the day. Ames had a time of 2:08.47 for his first race of the season. After a recent basketball campaign where the Panthers played in the Elite 8 field of the 3A state basketball tournament, Ames noted, "My legs just aren't ready yet. I'm going to take it easy this weekend."
Fifth and sixth place finishes for the Panthers included 400m dash competitors Hunter Goff (fifth-57.96) and Mason Hollowwa (sixth-58.94), Shad Lewis (1600m run-5:10.22), Trevor Whiteside (110 high hurdles-20.66), 4 x 400m relay team - fifth (Ed doh Hto, Andrew Santonastaso, Hunter Goff and Noah Nortnik) 3:55.76 and Brandon Butler in shot putt, sixth place, 36-03.25.
The remainder of Delta's placers included the 4 x 800m relay (seventh place-Enrique Gonzales, Kiril Ortega, Andrew Toole and Alex Abila), 10:10.67, Evan Baier (seventh place, triple jump, 37-05), 4 x 100m relay team (Dah Wah, Kula Moo, Alexis Fausto and Jarrett Hernandez, eighth place, 48.71) and Butler, eighth in discus, 98-07.
The Panthers are in Hotchkiss this weekend for the Hotchkiss Invitational at 9 a.m.
