A return to the gridiron in Craig was a successful one last week for Delta High School.

The Panthers were dominant on both sides of the scrimmage line in a 50-13 win in 3A WSL action against Moffat County.

Kole Roberts handled the kicking duties for Delta and finished the game with six point-after kicks and added a rushing touchdown to score 12 points in the game. Only Damon Jensen's 18 points topped that number.

A Joseph Bules two-point conversion, added to Roberts' six PAT kicks, added to the seven touchdowns scored by the Panthers to account for Delta's 50 points.

Jensen's three touchdowns came on runs of three, 62 and four yards.

Senior Tre' Johnson scored a first quarter touchdown on a 21-yard pass from Roberts to give the Panthers a 14-0 lead after one period of action.

Jensen's 62-yarder came in the second quarter and Tristan Brown added a five-yard blast for a 28-7 halftime lead for the Panthers. Moffat County's Eddie Smercina put the Bulldogs on the board with his 75-yard pass reception from Isaac Montoya in the second frame.

Roberts increased Delta's lead with a 14-yard dash in the third quarter and Beau Byers caught a pass from Roberts that covered 50 yards and another score to build Delta's lead to 42-7 with 12 minutes left to play.

Delta's final score came on Jensen's four-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Moffat County picked up one more score on a 74-yard pass play to Mikinzie Klimper from Keenan Hildebrandt in the final stanza as well.

The Panthers relied heavily on the running game which included 316 yards on 22 rushes for Jensen. Roberts ran for 49 yards on four carries and Brendon Starr collected 32 yards on four carries.

Delta's passing game was adequate in that Roberts completed eight of 11 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Byers hauled in three aerials for 94 yards and a touchdown with Johnson catching two passes for 30 yards and a score. Brown had two catches for 14 yards and Jensen added 18 yards to his game totals on one catch.

When offensive stats were finally totaled, the Panthers had accumulated 557 yards, 401 on the ground and another 156 through the air.

The Panthers celebrate Homecoming this week and entertain Basalt's Longhorns on Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m.
