For coach JB Lopez, Delta High School’s cross country team is definitely getting its money’s worth out of his service this season. Lopez knew if all his runners were to get some time on courses he would have to have enough events for them to participate in. Such was the case this past week when Lopez became a road warrior with a trip to Meeker in the AM and a trip to Ouray in the PM. Lopez, and a portion of the Panthers team, boarded a bus at 4:45 a.m. that was headed to Meeker. After the race in Meeker the team loaded up and made it back to Delta at 2:15 p.m. A second portion of athletes who had not made the trip to Meeker loaded the bus and headed to Ouray for another meet.

Friday morning’s results in Meeker were outstanding for the girls as they won the team title behind the efforts of Cedaredge’s Kylee Terry, and Delta’s Kylie Huff, Jessica Dexter, Shayla Curtis, Marcys Schaal, Grace Hall and Kassidy Wear. The boys finished in sixth place with Doyle Young placing in the top 10 at sixth.

Friday afternoon’s adventure in Ouray was rewarded with another first place for the girls and Cedaredge’s Jeff Sullivan ran to a first place finish in the individual portion of the boys' race.

Delta’s next cross country meet is in Hotchkiss on Saturday, Sept. 5 with a 9 a.m. starting time for the first race.
