Last Saturday’s 5k run at Matchett Park landed Delta’s Panthers in fifth place in the girls division and sixth in the boys race. Fruita Monument High School won the team title in the girls division with 38 points while host school Central won the boys team title with 39 points. Delta scored 124 points to finish fifth in the girls race, and the Panther boys scored 163 to finish sixth in their race.
Eagle Valley’s Samantha Blair won the individual title with a time of 17:20.90 with Delta sophomore Kylee Terry crossing the finish line in a time of 22:25.30 to place 20th. The next four runners to cross the line for Delta contributed to the Panther’s team score. Those four runners were freshman Kylie Huff in 24th (23:10.10), senior Jessica Dexter 26th (23:15.00), senior Marcy Schaal 27th (23:17.00) and freshman Shayla Curtis 32nd (23:32.10).
The Panthers also had times for four other runners; senior Winnie Hirsch, 38th (24:42.60), senior Grace Hall, 39th (25:11.10), freshmen Kassidy Wear, 40th (25:13.00) and Alexandra Hirsch, 46th (27:33.10).
In the boys race, Fruita Monument’s McGinley Zastrow claimed medalists honors with his 15:40.30. The Wildcats finished second overall in the team race with 48 points.
Delta’s first runner, senior Jeffery Sullivan, crossed the finish line with a time of 18:48.40 to place 26th. Senior Doyle Young finished 29th in a time of 19:14.60 and was followed by freshmen John Dexter, 40th, in 21:21.90 and Moses Huggins, 47th, in 25:22.80. Senior Logan Schuster finished the race in 25:42.70 to place 48th. Sophomore Easton Baier finished 49th at 25:48.60 and freshman Parker Neil was 50th in a time of 28.57.60.
