Delta High School sophomore Jillian Carlson displays medals earned at this year's state swim meet. Carlson was the state's best Class 3A swimmer in the 100 yard breaststroke with a winning time of 1:07.09.

Delta High School sophomore Jillian Carlson made history this past week with a first-place finish in the Class 3A 100 yard breaststroke in this year's state swimming competition. Carlson's previous best time in the 100 breast was 1:07.71 in the Southwest Conference Championships in Grand Junction on Feb. 8. Carlson's winning time at the state swim meet was 1:07.09.

Carlson had been near the top five in most of her competitions throughout the season in the 500 yard freestyle with her best time of the season coming at the Southwest Conference Championships. That time was 5:37.58 and Carlson's time in state competition this year was a personal best 5:36.85 and a 10th place finish.
