Delta High School was on the road for two volleyball matches this past week. On Oct. 1, the Panthers (4-1, 9-5) lost three straight sets to Class 4A Palisade High School and in the Oct. 3 contest, against Aspen High School, won with a three-set sweep.

Against Palisade (5-1, 8-5) the Panthers brought more to the game than the Bulldogs wanted. Set one was a four-point loss, 25-21, for Delta. A big effort in set two pushed the Bulldogs to the limit in a 29-27 win for the Bulldogs. Delta couldn’t match the effort of the first two sets in a 25-16 loss in set three. Sophomore’s Erika Kuta and Raelee McCurdy played the net well with six and five kills, respectively. Freshman Ellie Ames had three blocks in the match with Ames, senior Madi Gieck and Carlson recording aces in the match.

Digs leaders against Palisade included Kuta (14), McCurdy (13) and senior Haylin McCulloch (11).

Carlson had 13 assists in the game with serve receiving leaders for the Panthers including McCulloch (19), Kuta (16) and McCurdy (11).

Delta’s visit to Aspen was much more pleasing as the Panthers stopped the Skiers in straight sets, 25-17, 25-11 and 25-20.

Kuta (9), Ames (8) and McCurdy (7) were Delta’s kills leaders in the Oct. 3 game against Aspen. Ames also was the Panthers’ top ace producer with three and McCulloch (12) and sophomore Kayla Miller (8) had the most digs in the match against Aspen.

Carlson’s 27 assists were the most recorded for that category and McCulloch (16) and Kuta (11) were the top service receivers for the Panthers.

The Panthers were in Carbondale Oct. 8, for 3A WSL action against Roaring Fork’s Rams. Delta will be in Montrose on Thursday, Oct. 10, to play the Indians varsity at 6:30 p.m. Delta plays host to Basalt on Monday, Oct. 14, at 6:30 p.m. (varsity).
