The Delta Panthers have now outscored their 2A opponents 125 to 8 in their first three conference games. Their domination continued this week on the road at Cortez with a 49-8 victory. Their lone hiccup came at the hands of 3A Palisade homecoming week.
Konner Workman and Timmy Horn led Delta in offensive touchdowns with two each. Both of Horn’s came on the ground. Horn finished the night with 74 rushing yards on 11 attempts. Workman scored with a receiving touchdown and an interception returned for a touchdown. Workman hauled in two of quarterback Ty Reed’s three completions. Reed completed three of five attempts for 60 yards and also added 40 yards on the ground with a touchdown. Hunter Goff hauled in the other completion for 21 yards. Four players accounted for a total of 140 rushing yards on 23 attempts for an average of 6.1 yards per carry.
The Delta defense was once again dominant as it was able to add three scores on turnover returns. Two were interception returns by Workman and Ward. Ward scored on a 65 yard return. Along with Workman and Ward, Delta added two more ints from Rylan Bynum and Clayton Cryer. The Panthers added another score by turnover when Goff scored on a fumble return from 45 yards out.
The Panther defense amassed 46 tackles including seven sacks, four of which were credited to Easton Baier.
Kicker Jose Olivas was 7 for 7 in point after attempts to round out the Panthers scoring.
The Panthers (3-1) have a bye next week and will be back in action against Coal Ridge (0-3) at New Castle on Friday, Oct. 1, to begin league play.
