Last week’s two soccer matches, scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, against Vail Mountain, and Saturday, April 3, against Coal Ridge, were cancelled due to quarantine procedures in accordance with COVID protocol. Delta High School had a member of the soccer team test positive for COVID, which also involved other team members necessitating the postponement of both soccer matches. At this time no dates have been established for rescheduling of those contests.
The setback is concerning due to the fact that finding suitable dates for make up games grows increasingly difficult in such a short season.
Delta High School boys soccer coach Paul Shean commented on the unfortunate situation surrounding the postponements of the two matches. “It affected 10 players, all from Paonia. Diego Lareau just tested positive so he’ll be out for next week’s games against Palisade and Aspen. As far as I know, we’ll get the rest of them (Paonia team members) back for Palisade. We’re trying to reschedule Vail Mountain and Coal Ridge, but it’s getting tough as the window on the season is closing quickly.”
