Cedaredge senior Courtney Freeman signed her letter of intent on April 25 to play basketball at Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in Rangely, where she will earn an associated of applied science degree in nursing from NWCC.
Freeman will play under head coach Sherryl Klosterman. A 35-year veteran coach of women's basketball. Klosterman drove from Rangely to attend the signing.
A standout athlete at Cedaredge High School, Freeman lettered four years in basketball and volleyball. She was named an all-conference basketball player her sophomore, junior and senior years, and was all-state honorable mention her junior year.
As a senior, Freeman averaged 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. She was one of 10 players named to compete in the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports all-state team, was named to the all-state second basketball team by the Colorado High School Activities Association.
To be one of 10 all-state players in the state "is a tremendous honor and a reflection of the type of athlete that Courtney has been," said Freeman's basketball coach Russell Coleman.
CHS athletics director Brandon Milholland described Freeman as "a very happy person and a great leader," who consistently worked out in the weight room and didn't miss a single day of weights last summer. On the court, said Milholland, "This young lady wants the ball, and she's not afraid to take a big shot."
"We're looking forward to her doing some great things at the next level," said Milholland. "She's a tremendous example, as a leader, for all of us."
