The opening round game of the 2020 2A Region 2 tournament in Limon was between No. 15 Hotchkiss (18-4) and No. 18 Sedgwick County (Julesburg, 15-7) was closely contested over four quarters with regulation play ending in a 47-47 tie. An overtime period was needed to determine a winner with Hotchkiss outscoring Sedgwick County 13-4 to claim a 60-51 win and advancing to the regional finals against No. 2 Limon (21-1). The title game, on Saturday, March 7, was all Limon with the Badgers racing to an 18-3 lead in the first quarter and eventually posting a 79-39 win.
A seesaw battle in the opening quarter against Sedgwick County’s Hawks began with Hotchkiss sophomore Vianney Mendoza scoring the game’s first four points before the Hawks put together an offensive thrust to take a 13-5 lead.
