Competition began in the 160-pound division at the Dec. 19 wrestling dual in Hotchkiss between the Hotchkiss High School Bulldogs and the Delta High School Panthers. The first three matches were pins in less than 2:00 for the Bulldogs. Ethan Guy began the night with a pin over Delta’s Royce Barrios (2:00) and the pins kept coming at 170 pounds with Jace Peebles putting the finishing touches on Delta’s Jeffery Griffith at 0:57. Justin Mattison followed at 182 with his pin over Brandon Butler (1:24).
The Panthers broke the string of pins with 195-pounder Gauge Lockhart picking up a forfeit win to make the score 18-6. Eli Miramontes added six points with his pin over Hotchkiss’ Sam Ware in a time of 0:52.
Hotchkiss’ Christian Matus won the 285-pound bout with a fall over Delta’s Esteban Berrelleza at 0:54. Kyle Chaffin was a forfeit winner at 106 and the Bulldogs’ Anthony Scanlon pinned Delta’s Trey Glover (1:06) in the 113-pound match.
Neither team had a wrestler at 120 and Robert Cochran added Hotchkiss’ sixth pin of the evening with his win over Kaleb Cockroft (0:54).
Delta claimed the next two wins with Ben Koch picking up a forfeit at 132 and Jarrin Crandall scoring a major decision, 13-5, in the 138-pound match.
Hotchkiss won the final two matches of the evening with JD Miller pinning Delta’s Timothy Horn (3:06) at 145 and Traycer Hall’s pin against Delta’s Clay Sandridge (1:06).
