Hotchkiss High School (1-3, 3-7) traveled to Vail on Sept. 17, for a 2A/1A WSL matchup with third place Vail Mountain School (5-1, 5-2). The Gore Rangers were too much for the Bulldogs and won the match in three sets: 25-22, 25-21 and 25-20. On Sept. 21, the Bulldogs were in Collbran to face 1A Plateau Valley’s Cowboys. Unfortunately for Hotchkiss, the Cowboys were as inhospitable as the Gore Rangers were and dealt Hotchkiss another three-set loss: 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15.
In the Sept. 17 match against Vail Mountain, the Gore Rangers had a little more firepower with more efficient play at the net. Lexi Linafelter had 10 kills in the match with Hotchkiss’ Shay Glaser and Amelia Hickam sharing honors as the Bulldogs top hitters with five kills each.
The Gore Rangers had six more aces than Hotchkiss (10-4) but Hickam and Glaser finished with 12 and 11 total blocks, respectively, to just seven for Vail Mountain.
Vail Mountain had 41 digs to eight for the Bulldogs and Hotchkiss had the more busy evening in service receptions with 102. Dana Kiel finished with 41 and Vazquez had 22 to lead the Bulldogs. Tyler Wolfe had 14 receptions to pace Vail Mountain’s receiving corps.
In Collbran, the Bulldogs played well in streaks. Hickam was Hotchkiss’ kill-leader with nine and Brezonick had 15 assists to lead the Bulldogs in that department. Kiel had the most receptions (34) against Plateau Valley with teammates Vazquez (24), Lottie Hollembeak (18) and Allyson Regleman (10) hitting the double-digit mark.
The Bulldogs played Delta today and are in De Beque on Friday, Sept. 27, for a lone varsity match at 5 p.m.
