It's been a long season for Delta High School in 2019-20. There will be only two wrestlers heading to the Pepsi Center for the Class 3A Panthers this season.

Senior Gauge Lockhart won a berth in this years wrestling classic in the 195-pound weight division and junior Eli Miramontes placed third at 220 to give Delta its two representatives for this year's state wrestling tournament.

Lockhart, 29-5, opened last weekend's CHSAA 3A Region 1 tournament in Montrose with a fall (1:23) over Olathe High School's Rodney Rice, 7-20. Lockhart defeated Rifle High School's Alex Guardado by fall (3:16) in the next round to land in the finals opposite Steamboat Springs senior John Slowey, 37-9. Lockhart used almost all of his three periods in the title bout before putting Slowey on his back for a pin at 5:16.

Miramontes, 21-12, won his opening match against Alamosa's Logan Garcia by fall (3:25) then fell to Pagosa Springs' Skyler Hill by fall (2:10) in the semifinals. Miramontes won his first match in the consolation bracket with a fall (3:32) over Cortez's Devan Frost and then faced his first round opponent (Garcia) in the third place match where he held on for an 11-10 decision.

Junior Jeffery Griffith,18-16, placed fifth for the Panthers at 170 with a fall (2:15) over Moffat County's Micheal Voloshin.

Freshman Kaleb Cockroft, 6-14, finished sixth at 120 and junior Ben Koch, 26-10, lost his fifth place match to finish sixth.
