Four turnovers from the North Fork offense was too much to overcome for the football team Friday night against Meeker. Meeker senior running back Kelton Turner ran for 256 of the team’s 305 total offensive yards, all on the ground. He also scored three touchdowns on the way to a 30-13 victory.
The Cowboys took the early lead with a field goal in the first quarter. North Fork would answer with a touchdown on a 9-yard touchdown scamper by QB Drayden Taylor. It was one of his fourteen carries for 88 yards and his lone score. The Cowboys answered on the ensuing drive to take a 10-7 lead into halftime.
The Cowboys would open the second half scoring on a 4-yard touchdown run, giving them a 16-7 lead after the missed extra point try. The Cowboys then added another touchdown and extra point before the Miners answered with a touchdown of their own and a failed two-point conversion to bring the score to 23-13. The Cowboys would add one more touchdown in the fourth quarter to round out the scoring.
Mordecai White carried the ball 22 times for 80 yards, Blaine Peebles added another 51 yards on nine carries. Peebles also caught two of quarterback Hunter Moreno’s three completions for 68 yards. Defensively the Miners racked up 64 tackles, seven for a loss.
The Miners (4-2) travel to Roaring Fork (1-5) on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. to continue league play.
