If the first set of the Delta/Montrose high school’s volleyball match was any indication, fans were about to be treated to a great contest between the two teams. Unfortunately, the anticipated closely contested match did not develop with Montrose taking control in the second set and storming to a 3-0 sweep, 25-21, 25-10 and 25-16.

The game’s first set was a back-and-forth affair which wasn’t settled until senior Hadley Greiner’s final service. Delta had taken serve, trailing 22-19, with senior Madie Gieck holding serve to pull the Panthers to 22-21 before Montrose stole service with a 23-21 lead. Greiner held service for the final two points and a 25-21 decision.

Montrose jumped to an early 6-0 lead before relinquishing service. The Indians continued adding points to their score on alternating service rotations and built a 12-point lead (18-6) late in the second set. Delta closed Montrose’s lead to 20-10 before sophomore Kelsey Rocco took service for the final four points and a 25-10 second set win.

The Panthers fell behind in the third set and made a run at Montrose in the late stages before falling 25-16.
