Delta High School's Nichole Koch is in the history books for wrestling. Koch won her second straight title in girls wrestling at this year's state tournament.
There are some special circumstances surrounding Koch's win for the second straight year. Koch, either won by pin or technical fall over all her opponents in this year's state tournament with no points being scored against her throughout the tournament.
Delta High School head boys wrestling coach, Clayton Curtis, noted this state tournament competition was especially significant for Koch because she broke her hand in early December and still dominated the competition. Koch remains undefeated with a 13-0 record, with five of those wins coming in boys competition this season.
Curtis strongly believes Koch might have fared well in the boys division had she wrestled in the regional competition recently completed in Montrose over the weekend. "I think that if she were to have wrestled in the boys regional tournament, she would have had a great chance at qualifying for the boys state tournament this weekend (Feb. 20, 21, 22) at the Pepsi Center in Denver."
