The first season of combining two of the strongest small-school baseball programs in the state came to an end on Saturday as the North Fork High School baseball team lost to Bayfield 8-3 at the Class 3A Region 6 Tournament in Hotchkiss.

The combination of the former Hotchkiss and Paonia High Schools won their opening-round game against No. 27 Strasburg 8-5, as the No. 6 Miners scored four runs in both the second and third innings to secure the victory. They held on as the Indians rallied twice in the late innings to close the gap.
