Fourth seeded Delta High School will play for only its third title this Saturday, Nov. 30, when the Panthers take on second ranked Sterling High School in Pueblo at CSU-Pueblo’s Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl at 1 p.m. Both teams come into the title game with 11 wins and one loss.

Delta made its first appearance in a finals game in 1960 where the Panthers earned a state title with a 16-14 win over Fairview. The Panthers followed up the next season with a loss to Lamar in the championship game.

Delta’s got the top passer in the state in Bynum who has 2,400 yards and 33 touchdowns in 12 games while Sterling senior Brock Shalla is ranked eighth with 1,474 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Rushing leaders in Class 2A include Moo at No. 22 with 646 yards and five touchdowns with Sterling senior Conner Polenz ranked 29th with 484 yards and six touchdowns.

When it comes to catching passes, Delta’s Hughes is ranked second with 936 yards and 17 touchdowns and the Tigers’ Tucker Myers has 450 yards and four TDs at No. 18.

Class 2A scoring leaders include No. 4 Hughes with 108 points, No. 6 Moo with 93 points and Sterling’s Ryan Wecker at No. 16 with 68 points.

Touchdown leaders in Saturday’s title game in Pueblo include Hughes at No. 3 with 18 and Workman and Bynum at No. 30 and 31 with nine TDs each.

Bynum leads Class 2A in total yards with 2,727 with Sterling’s Shalla at No. 8 with 1,859.

On the defensive side of the ball Saturday’s contest will have a number of top tacklers in Class 2A in the title game, including junior James Goff (ranked 22nd-89 tackles), Workman (23rd-88) and Wilson (28th-82).

The top kick scorers in 2A include Moo at No. 1 with 63 points followed by No. 7 Wecker of Sterling with 38 points.
