Jay Stooksberry's service to this community shows his commitment and dedication to the success of Delta. Jay tirelessly worked with Region 10 to help gain grant funding and other funding used for broadband development and small business support. He has worked with the Black Canyon Boys and Girls Club in Montrose. Jay is an active donor of money and time to several local charities, including the Black Canyon Animal Sanctuary. Jay was also actively involved with the Business Improvement District. Currently Jay is the vice chair of the City of Delta Planning Commission.
Jay is an intelligent man of strong character and if he believes in something, he is not afraid to present a concept which some people may disagree with. A good example of this is retail cannabis. Jay feels this would be a good financial boost for the city, and is asking the citizens and city council to consider this as an option. I don't see this as a personal agenda, I see it as a subject he is asking the public and city council to research and consider all the options. After consideration, if the answer is "no," at least it is an informed response.
I work closely with Jay as a director with the Delta Area Chamber of Commerce and am very impressed with his clear thinking and his concise decision-making process. Jay always keeps the "good of the whole" in the forefront. I have never seen Jay place his personal agenda on the table. To me, this is one of the most important traits of a true leader.
