Susan Beth (Harris) Worthington died June 9, 2019 in Grand Junction. She was 66.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, June 14, 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Delta with Pastor Greg Teel officiating. Inurnment will have taken place at the Pea Green Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 16, 1952, in Leavenworth, Kan., to Millard and Patricia (Madsen) Harris. She spent her first nine years in Valley Falls, Kan.,on the family farm. Her father's health required a move to Colordo where she spent the remainder of her childhood years on the farm at Pea Green Corner.
She graduated from Olathe High School with the class of 1970. She played the clarinet in marching and concert bands, cheered on the Pep Squad and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was also an active 4-H club member, completing many projects in domestics and animal husbandry.
She moved to Alexandria, Va. following graduation and worked in criminal intelligence and organized crime for the FBI in Washington, DC. She returned to Colorado and spent the remainder of her employment years with the Colorado Department of Corrections at the Delta Correctional Center.
She started on a C.E.T.A. contract clerical position, then worked her way up through the ranks to Correctional Officer V (major), first over operations, then programs.
She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Delta.
She married Mike Worthington on Nov. 1, 1979. She had children from a previous marriage, as did he. They raised their blended family together.
Mrs. Worthington enjoyed classic cars, traveling, the Red Hat Society and spending time with her family. She also volunteered for CASA (court appointed special advocate), acting as the voice for children in domestic violence and abuse cases.
Mrs. Worthington is survived by her husband, Mike Worthington; children, Chris (Paula) Worthington, Kristine (Lance) Weiszbrod, Bethany (Don) Suppes, and James (Crystal) Gerard, Jr.; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchilden.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gordon Harris; and granddaughter, Kayanna Pierce.
Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 1290 A St., Delta, CO 81416, Life Trails Car Club scholarship, or to a charitable group of the donor's choice.
