A suspect has been arrested after a three-month investigation into a shooting in Paonia on Jan. 12 which seriously injured 54-year-old Ryan Redifer.
Paonia Police Chief Neil Ferguson, in a press release issued April 25, stated that an arrest warrant was issued and on April 13 Heather Jones of Paonia turned herself into police without further incident.
The warrant charged Jones with a felony offense of first degree assault, and misdemeanor charges of prohibited use of a weapon and violation of a protection order.
Jones is being held on a $60,000 bond.
Redifer was airlifted to St. Mary's Medical Center in Grand Junction the night of the shooting. A GoFundMe account (www.gofundme.com/ryan-redifers-medical-expense-fund) is still accepting donations to cover his ongoing medical expenses.
During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
