In 1916 a new mining company was organized with many of the investors from this area. The mine was located in Pitkin County close to Aspen. The original name of the mine was the Contact Mine. It mainly mined silver and in August Ed Penfield, Fred Willoughby, Pete Grier and CT Meadows returned to Hotchkiss from the mine that they had been looking after. At this point they thought the mine was going to generate enough funds to the stockholders that they had invested plus more!
My grandfather was one of the original stockholders and his stock was passed down through generations of his family. Recently I received a letter from the president stating the status of the company and asking me to fill out a form. The form asks for information that I do not feel comfortable giving out. I was under the impression that the company had basically folded years ago. If anyone in this area had or has any of the Midnight Mining stock information, I would like to talk to you. My number is 872-3366. Let me know if YOU received this form.
