Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking information about two bull elk that were killed and left in early November in the Sanborn Park area on the west side of the Uncompahgre Plateau.
Both bull elk had six-point racks, which indicated they were mature animals in prime breeding age. The animals were killed early in the third rifle season in Game Management Unit 61, likely sometime from Nov. 3-8.
"Whoever killed these elk are not hunters, they're criminals," said Mark Caddy, district wildlife manager for CPW. "Whoever shot them has no respect for wildlife, for laws governing hunting or for law-abiding hunters. Acts like this steal wildlife from all of us."
Anyone with information about this crime against wildlife can make a report to the Montrose wildlife service center at 1-970-252-6000; or to Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648. Informants can remain anonymous and are eligible for cash rewards for tips that lead to a conviction.
On Dec. 2, officers of the Delta Police Department responded to a report of an assault. Officers spoke with a 64-year-old male with a bleeding injury on his neck.
