Virginia Carol Scheele died Feb. 3, 2017, at Willow Tree Care Center. She was 79.
She was born May 30, 1937, in Miltonvale, Kan., to M.R. and Minnie Henderson. She grew up in Hollis and Miltonvale, Kan., and attended Wesleyan High School in Miltonvale.
After high school, she became a telephone operator for Bell Systems in Clay Center, Kan. She married Del Scheele of Clay Center on Oct. 11, 1957. He worked for J.C. Penney and they moved each time he was transferred. They lived in Iowa, Kansas and Colorado. They moved to Delta in 1968, then were transferred to Leadville and Craig. They purchased a business in Delta in 1981 and had lived here since that time.
Mrs. Scheele worked in the business until it was sold in 1984. She also worked at Pizza Hut and in school food service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping at yard and estate sales, following NASCAR and her 1965 Ford Falcon convertible. She battled rheumatoid arthritis for 20 years.
She is survived by her husband, Del; her children, Coleen, Jeff, Mike and Karen; two sisters from Kansas; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two younger brothers.
Services are planned at a later date. Interment will be at Western Colorado Veterans Cemetery.

During a preliminary hearing in Delta District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 15, Judge Steven Schultz found probable cause for second degree murder charges against Heather Jones.
Jones previously faced three counts in the shooting of Ryan Redifer in Paonia on Jan. 12, 2018 -- assault in the first degree, assault in the second degree and violation of a protection order.
