After suffering a 5-1 loss in Durango last week, Delta High School's Panthers got back on track with a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Basalt last week.
Delta's usually stout defense was missing for much of the first half against the Longhorns during first half action with Stella Scott scoring the game's first goal at the 38:00 mark. Basalt moved easily down the field with crisp passes and agility to set up Scott's goal. Shortly after a defensive steal by the Longhorns, Scott scored her second goal to leave the Longhorns ahead two goals to nil.
The Panthers appeared sluggish in all phases of the game compared to the hustling Longhorns.
Just before halftime, a contested pass from sophomore Delphina Mira found a wide open Erika Kuta who nudged the ball goalward for Delta's only score in the first half.
Second half play was dominated offensively by the scoring of senior Missa Webb, who scored a hat trick of goals to provide the Panthers with a 4-3 win when the horn sounded to end the game. Webb's three goals lead Delta statistics with a total of 12 for the season and puts her third in 3A WSL and tied for 12th in Class 3A scorers.
The Panthers fired 15 shots on goal during the game with goal keeper Joslyn Carpenter defending Delta's nets well in the game allowing three scores and recording six saves.
Delta faces league foe Roaring Fork (third place, 3-1 and 6-4) on May 2 at 6 p.m. in Delta.
