Cedaredge resident and freelance writer Carolyn White has written a humorous, family-friendly memoir about life without electricity, telephone, or hot tap water.

Entitled "Bricks Underneath a Hoop Skirt," it documents her time on an isolated, backcountry ranch in central Idaho where she cooked on a wood stove, sewed on a treadle machine, had mail dropped out of an airplane, and used a team of horses to haul supplies.

White has been published over 400 times. Her stories, interviews, historical articles, and column "Living the Good Life" have appeared in The Rocky Mountain Fence Post, Colorado Central, Colorado Life, Grand Valley, and The Beacon.

In addition, she has written for Idaho, Farm Show, Fur-Fish-Game, The Natural Horse, and over a dozen other magazines.

A graduate of Ohio University with degrees in English and creative writing, White spent 20 years living in the mountains of Idaho before moving to Colorado in 2003. A book-signing event for "Bricks underneath a Hoop Skirt" will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 4B's Brew Pub, 215 W. Main Street, Cedaredge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
